Nancy J. Hutson, Ph.D.


As former senior vice president of Pfizer Global Research and Development and director of Pfizer’s largest pharmaceutical research and development site, Groton/New London Laboratories, Dr. Hutson brings to the RiverVest scientific advisory board a history of more than 25 years of pharmaceutical research and leadership experience. In addition to RiverVest, Dr. Hutson serves on the boards of Inspire Pharmaceuticals,Inc. and Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc.While at Pfizer, Dr. Hutson was an active member of numerous committees, serving as chair of the Groton/New London Laboratories Leadership Team and the Exploratory Development Strategy Team, and as a member of the Worldwide Development Operations Group, Senior Leadership Team and the Pharmaceuticals Steering Committee, among others.

Dr. Hutson is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the National Institutes of Health National Research Service Award from the University of Oxford, the Roslyn S. Yallow Research and Development Award from the American Diabetes Association, and the Connecticut Woman of Innovation in Research, Innovation and Leadership. She has authored or co-authored more than 45 academic research papers and abstracts.

Dr. Hutson received her Ph.D. in physiology and biochemistry from Vanderbilt University and her B.A. in general biology from Illinois Wesleyan University. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Diabetes and Endocrinology Center at Vanderbilt and a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Oxford.
